ACLU-NJ, LWVNJ Launch Voter Protection Project

The American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey in conjunction with The League of Women Voters of New Jersey will be offering voters assistance and support as they go to the polls November 7.

NJ Voter Protection 2006 is looking for volunteers to help staff the ACLU-NJ/LWVNJ Voter Hotline in the days before November 7 and on November 7. We are in particular need of bilingual assistance. Volunteers will staff the hotline in the Trenton or Newark office.

The Voter Protection project also needs lawyers and law students who can provide on-site legal support at county court houses on November 7 for those voters who opt to go to court to get their right to vote.

Training in election law and voting rights will be provided in Newark and in New Brunswick. Volunteer legal support should be available for at least four-hour shifts at the county court houses on November 7. Alternatively, we also are seeking lawyers willing to be on call that day to assist voters in each county as needed.

Volunteers also are needed to assist in data entry on or after November 7 as part of the ACLU-NJ's long-term, election-monitoring efforts.
