Communications Internships

The American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey is seeking an enterprising college or graduate student who is interested in developing skills in publications and other communications/public relations tasks. This internship would be an excellent opportunity for college or graduate students interested in a career in journalism, public relations, social advocacy or public policy.

Overview

Working under the supervision of ACLU-NJ communications staff, interns will assist with the public education, outreach and media relations components of the ACLU-NJ's work. Tasks might include: canvassing media outlets for civil liberties and civil rights- themed articles, copyediting and proofreading press releases, newsletter articles and other print material, assisting with event planning and implementation, and various other aspects of internal and external communications.

Skills and Qualifications

The applicant must have superior written and oral communication skills, an interest in current events and a passion for social justice. The applicant must also have Internet and other research skills and be able to work well independently. The intern must be willing to devote five to 10 hours per week.
