The ACLU-NJ seeks highly motivated undergraduate or graduate students for internship positions in its Racial Justice Project. The Racial Justice Project aims to preserve and extend constitutionally guaranteed and other rights to segments of the population that historically have been denied those rights on the basis of race, ethnicity or national origin. RJP issue areas include police practices, criminal justice, prison and jail conditions, voting rights, education and immigrant rights.
Overview
The RJP seeks an undergraduate or graduate intern to work on communications and public education activities. Working closely with the Racial Justice Organizer, the intern will assist with all aspects of communications work. Responsibilities include research and data entry for the Project's coalition and community events as well as begin the process of creating the Racial Justice Project website and public education materials. While the intern will have the opportunity to interact with influential leaders and elected officials and learn about the Project's issue areas, applicants should understand that the intern will not gain legal experience.
Skills and Qualifications
Applicants should have excellent research, writing, and communication skills as well as the ability to work independently. Applicants should have a demonstrated commitment to racial justice issues, civil rights, and civil liberties. They should be self-motivated, articulate and capable.
How to Apply
Applicants are required to submit an Internship Application Form. During the online application process, all applicants will be required to submit a cover letter, resume, and a writing sample. If the candidate is selected for an interview, references and unofficial transcripts may be requested at that time.
