Jay Gartman has been on the ACLU-NJ Board of Trustees since 2005.

His involvement with the ACLU-NJ began in 2004, when he started as a volunteer, editing newsletters and other materials for the affiliate. In 2011, he started a blog, Civil Writes for the Board of Trustees. Gartman is also a logtime member of the DeSilver Society.

Gartman is former owner and past President of West Caldwell-based Eastern Tool Warehouse (ETW) Corporation, one of the nation's largest distributors of automotive and truck repair tools and equipment. Prior to joining ETW in 1980, he specialized in institutional and media communications and corporate marketing for GTE, Florida Power & Light and Burger King Corporation. During those years, Jay's departments earned many awards including two Gold Quills, the highest recognition given in the public relations industry.

Gartman lives in Basking Ridge, along with Sue, his wife of the past 33 years. They have three grown children, Carly (member of the ACLU-Philadelphia), Sara and Lev, and a granddaughter and grandson). He has a BS/Journalism from the University of Florida and an MBA in Marketing from Florida International University.
