Marc Beebe, Senior Director, IEEE Strategic Research, Public Imperatives, and Corporate Development -- Marc Beebe is the Senior Director of Strategic Research, Public Imperatives, and Corporate Development at IEEE, a non-profit association that is the world's largest professional association advancing innovation and technological excellence for the benefit of humanity. At IEEE, Beebe is in charge of helping all areas of the organization, from Publications to Human Resources, make data-driven decisions through surveys, focus groups, and secondary research, as well as leading teams that support IEEE’s Humanitarian Activities Committee and Industry Engagement and Corporate Development.

Prior to IEEE, Beebe served as the Internal Evaluator for a number of education grants at Rutgers University and taught, as an adjunct professor, upper level social psychology courses, including courses such as The Psychology of Prejudice and Conflict.

He "blames" his parents for his interest in civil liberties. When he was young, his parents would take him to marches for the Equal Rights Amendment and other political activities. They instilled in him a strong concern about social justice and social responsibility.

The intersection of technology and civil liberties is a particular interest for Beebe. While technology has the potential to make all of our lives better and easier, it can, at the same time, make it easier for governments and corporations to impinge on our civil rights.

He has served on the Board of the ACLU-NJ since 2003. Beebe is currently National Board Representative (which means he also serves on the Board of the National ACLU, where he chairs the Governance Committee), as well as chair of the Privacy & Technology Committee.

Beebe holds a B.A. in Psychology and Philosophy from University of Maryland and an M.S. in Social Psychology from Rutgers.
