Joe Johnson serves as Policy Counsel at the ACLU-NJ, where he leads legislative tracking and review, contributes to the housing, cannabis, and school-to-prison pipeline campaigns, and mobilizes support around key issues. He often appears before legislative committees to provide testimony on legislation. He first joined ACLU-NJ in 2019 as a Legal Fellow before transitioning to the Policy Department.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Joe graduated from Monmouth University in 2016, where he was captain of the football team. He then attended Georgetown University Law Center, graduating in 2019. While in law school, he worked as a research assistant, spent a semester as a student attorney in the Georgetown Law Civil Rights Clinic, and interned for the National ACLU Racial Justice Program and the United States Commission on Civil Rights.
