State v. Jahnell Weaver

In June 2012, the ACLU-NJ filed an amicus brief arguing that a criminal defendant’s right to a speedy trial was violated by the four year delay in prosecution from the time of his arrest to the time of his trial. The ACLU-NJ argued that the court has a responsibility to establish procedures that would implement the Speedy Trial guarantees of both the United States and New Jersey constitutions.
