“Ban the Box”

Prohibits employers from conducting a criminal history inquiry of a job applicant until after a conditional offer, excludes expunged convictions convictions, and sets time limits for when an employer can consider an applicant’s criminal history. Expanding opportunities for those who try to re-enter the work force after a criminal conviction is a critical step to strengthening public safety, our economy, and ending discrimination.
