Port Authority of NY and NJ Transparency Reform - OPRA

S2183 extends open records laws to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ). The bill would extend the provisions of both New Jersey’s Open Public Records Act (OPRA) and New York’s Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) to the PANYNJ, and would give individuals to go to court in either state to challenge improper denials of access to public records. Following the revelations that emerged from the George Washington Bridge closure in 2013, extending open records laws to the PANYNJ is an important component of reform.
