New Jersey Prison Justice Watch

The ACLU of New Jersey is a member and partner of New Jersey Prison Justice Watch, a coalition of survivors, families, advocates, and faith-based communities calling for an end to torture and inhumane treatment in New Jersey correctional facilities. Survivors of incarceration share their stories through NJPJW to advocate for policies that can prevent others from experiencing the brutality of what they have suffered.

NJPJW is led largely by survivors of New Jersey prisons and their families, and the coalition’s work has resulted in some of the most important reforms in the nation. Testimonies from survivors through NJPJW were a driving force behind New Jersey’s landmark restrictions on solitary confinement and the state’s Public Health Emergency Credits law that saved lives during COVID-19 pandemic.
