CD12 Candidate Forum

CD12 People's Coalition Primary Candidate Forum

The NJ-12 People’s Coalition Forum is a community-led primary candidate forum focused on the issues that shape daily life across Central New Jersey. This event provides a direct opportunity for voters to hear from those seeking to represent NJ-12 in Congress and to understand where they stand on critical issues such as: healthcare access, economic fairness, housing stability, foreign policy, environmental protection, and human rights. The People’s Coalition, along with the ACLU-NJ and dozens of other partners, is hosting this forum on Friday, March 13th at TCNJ in Ewing, NJ to ensure that community priorities are part of the public conversation and that voters have clear and accessible information ahead of this primary election scheduled for June 2nd. Your attendance and participation is what makes this possible. Please see the attached flyer, logistics details, and RSVP link. This event is open to all who live in NJ’s 12th Congressional District and beyond, we also welcome anyone interested to stream our event live (link to be distributed at a later date).

Richard III

The Curtain will host a series of panels and talk-backs with national political action groups and elected leaders following Sunday matinees of their all-new adaptation of William Shakespeare's Richard III (starring Andrew Sellon from TV's “Gotham”). These panels are free and open to the public. On Sunday, March 22, panelists include ACLU of NJ Executive Director Amol Sinha and Jersey City Mayor James Solomon. Panelists will address the overlap between Richard III and the current state of American affairs, discussing how to get involved in the current protest movement and local politics, the resources available to the public, knowing and exercising your constitutional rights, how to protect your neighbors and your community, the history of activism in America, and more. Use the discount code NJACLU for $5 off every ticket for any performance for the run of the show!

Citizenship, Immigration, and Deportation: Then and Now

The issues of immigration and deportation in the United States are deeply fraught. Throughout our history, approaches to immigration have changed – from national quotas to explicit exclusion to mass deportations. The United States’s immigration policy is connected to broader political debates and perception of external threats. The Jewish community has always identified with the plight of the immigrant; many of our families came to the United States as refugees. That shared history, combined with the essential Jewish teaching to love our neighbors, makes the topic of Citizenship, Immigration and Deportation in America endlessly interesting and relevant. Join us for a timely and informative Lunch and Learn featuring Gary Darden, a history professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University. His talk will cover numerous contentious times in our nation’s immigration history, and we will explore the question of how this time is – or is not – different than what history has shown us. As always, there will be ways to Take Action following the Lunch & Learn.

No Kings Princeton

Join the ACLU of New Jersey and Indivisible Princeton for No Kings Day on October 18 to condemn President Trump’s escalating abuses of power. Since taking office, the Trump administration has sent masked federal agents to arrest people without due process and deport them to torture prisons thousands of miles away, slashed Medicaid for people with disabilities, and attempted to silence students, professors, lawyers, the press, and their political opponents along the way. President Trump and his administration are abusing their power and denying us our fundamental rights in the process, but we won’t back down. Let’s be clear: Power belongs to the people, and the people will hold power to account. Grow our movement and join us on October 18.
