NEWARK – The New Jersey Supreme Court has agreed to hear the marriage equality case in January.

The following is a statement from ACLU-NJ Executive Director Udi Ofer on the court’s decision.

"The New Jersey Supreme Court’s decision to hear the marriage equality case three months from now makes it is even more pressing for the legislature to act immediately to make marriage equality the law in New Jersey. Gay and lesbian couples should not have to ring in another year with their futures hanging in limbo.

Moreover, the Supreme Court should deny the stay of Judge Jacobson’s historic ruling. Loving and committed New Jersey couples should not have to wait any longer to receive the equality that they deserve."
