As part of its larger focus on bringing racial and criminal justice equity to the legal system, the ACLU-NJ seeks to check the power of prosecutors and to change a culture that often seeks the harshest punishment possible in any and all circumstances.

The discriminatory history of our country makes racial and economic injustice inextricably linked. Disparities in wealth, income, access to resources, and other economic opportunities remain based on race and ethnicity, preventing us from attaining racial justice.

Young people and students face unique vulnerabilities to their civil liberties and civil rights. The ACLU of New Jersey works to make sure that young people are not punished for their youth and that students can fully access their constitutional rights, including their educational rights.

The ACLU-NJ has been a leader in the fight to ensure that everyone who is eligible to vote is able to easily vote.
