Newarkers Demanded Police Reform and Racial Justice in 1967. Decades Later, the Demand Persists.

It was on this day in 1967 when two white police officers pulled over and assaulted John William Smith, a Black cab driver, in Newark. As word spread about the incident, residents took to the streets in what would come to be known as the Newark Rebellion.
