In response to reports that the Department of Homeland Security has violated dozens of judicial orders in New Jersey, ACLU-NJ Executive Director Amol Sinha issued the following statement:
“The revelation that the Department of Homeland Security violated dozens of judicial orders in New Jersey is shamefully unsurprising. This isn’t just inadvertent or sloppy; the Trump administration has repeatedly flouted judicial orders and attacked the integrity of judges. It has made it a practice to illegally arrest, detain, and deport people, causing irreversible harm to families and communities. Behind every violation is a person, a family, and a community – children have been left without their parents and lives have been shattered.
“We’re calling on our congressional representatives to leverage every method at their disposal to confront this federal administration that is intent on abusing its power without regard for the people it’s meant to serve or the institutions that precede it.”
