Beginning in 2025, we’re celebrating 65 years of defending liberty and pursuing justice for all – and we believe that continuing our mission is as important now as it was then.

The civil rights movement was sweeping across the country when the ACLU of New Jersey held our very first public meeting on June 16, 1960. Our goal was clear: preserve, advance, and expand the individual rights and liberties guaranteed by the state and federal constitutions in the courts, in the legislature, and in our communities.

More than six decades later, we’ve seen the progress that our state can achieve when we dare to create a more perfect New Jersey.

Beginning in 2025, we’re celebrating 65 years of defending liberty and pursuing justice for all – and we believe that continuing our mission is as important now as it was then.

As our nation faces unprecedented attacks on fundamental freedoms at the core of our democracy, we’re ready to defend civil rights and liberties for generations to come. Join our movement.
