America does not belong to those who rule through fear – it belongs to the people.
On Saturday, March 28, 2026, millions of people across the country came together for the third round of No Kings demonstrations. Over sixty rallies took place here in New Jersey with thousands showing up in support of democracy and to condemn the Trump administration’s horrific abuses of power.
There were ACLU of New Jersey speakers at rallies in Camden, Hoboken and Jersey City, Montclair, Morristown, Newark, and Princeton to reject authoritarianism and show what true democracy looks like. Throughout the day and across the state, New Jerseyans made their voices clear: in New Jersey and in America, there’s no place for kings.
This third round of No Kings events built off the successful nationwide protests in June and October of last year, the latter of which was the largest single-day of protest in U.S. history.
Since he took office for a second term, we have seen President Trump take shocking actions. His administration has deployed federal agents and troops to American cities, sent masked agents to arrest people without due process and deport them to torture prisons thousands of miles away, and escalated attacks on communities, including when armed agents killed Americans documenting government abuses.
It is clear President Trump is abusing his power and denying us our fundamental rights in the process. The Trump administration continues to fearmonger in our communities and attempt to crush dissent wherever it appears. But, as this weekend proved, we will not back down.
The people will keep pushing back across the country against attacks from the Trump administration. Protecting our democracy isn’t a partisan issue – it’s an American imperative. The freedom to dissent without fear of government retribution is a vital part of any well-functioning democracy, and Americans deserve a well-functioning democracy.
When our communities are under attack and democracy is being threatened, silence and inaction are not options. Power belongs to the people, and the people will hold power to account.
As the Trump administration escalates its abuses of power, we the people will show that we will do everything we can to protect each other, our communities, and our country. New Jersey has shown that it is possible to achieve meaningful change in the face of national challenges by enacting new protections to safeguard reproductive freedom, advancing immigrants’ rights, and achieving fairer elections under the previous Trump administration. We know how to lead the nation by example because we’ve done it before, and we will do it again.
The ACLU-NJ will continue to do everything in our power to ensure that New Jersey is a safer, freer, more welcoming, and more affordable state for all – it's what the people want and deserve. Join us.
