The ACLU-NJ, as-friend-of-the-court, argued that the Kean University Board of Trustees violated the Open Public Meetings Act ("OPMA") when it failed to make its closed session meeting minutes "promptly available" as required by law, and when the Board failed to send proper advance notice to University faculty that would be impacted by a matter discussed during a closed session of the Board. OPMA was designed to insure the rights of the people to have adequate advance notice of and the right to attend all meetings of public bodies at which any business affecting the public is discussed or acted upon in any way. The Board's actions encroached upon these important rights, and it is both important and required by law, that the Board and other public bodies throughout the State are compliance with OPMA.
