Smith v. Millville

The ACLU-NJ filed an amicus brief in support of an employee who was fired after filing for divorce from his wife who worked for the same employer.  The employer said he thought the divorce would be ugly and that if the couple had reconciled, the employee could have kept his job. The brief argued that the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination protects people who are changing their marital status (in the process of getting married or divorced) and when employers act based on stereotypes about an employee's marital status.
